Jovan Dockmanovich lives a rather simple, private, and quiet life. If you’ve ever taken a class with Jovan, he’s anything but that! At CORE, Jovan is nothing short of a leader. He’s the one pushing through each and every rep. He’s the one motivating, inspiring, and leading others by example. He’s the one who accepts any challenge a trainer throws his way. Jovan says, “I may be a bit loud, but I’ve learned if I don’t let that sound out, I just can’t move anymore.”
To get to this point in his fitness journey, Jovan had to overcome one major obstacle - Fear. For many of us, obstacles include sore muscles, busy schedules, or lack of motivation. For Jovan, his came from deep within. It was the fear of looking foolish, fear of not belonging, and the fear of sticking out. “The mental change had to come first for me, and a lot of that had to do with putting fear aside.”
Jovan overcame this fear once he realized that as strong and real as it felt, it was not grounded in anything legitimate. “I realized there was no physical harm waiting for me, just perhaps, a bruised ego and a sore body.”
With JoJo Polk’s mantra “it’s got to mean something” ingrained within, Jovan is no longer apprehensive when it comes to exercising with others. “I’ve come to realize, no one is really looking at you and that everyone feels just as insecure as you do.” He adds, “Now I get out of bed every morning knowing that I’m going to engage in some form of physical activity and will no longer be afraid.”
Jovan’s leadership and drive earned him the title as overall winner of the 2015 Fall CORE Fitness Challenge. When he’s not at CORE, Jovan enjoys cooking and cycling.
